Epidemic intelligence (EI) can be defined as the “early identification of potential health threats, as well as their verification, assessment and investigation” and involves the “detection and interpretation of unstructured information in the Internet” provided by both official and informal sources. In this talk, I will present epidemic intelligence tools, methods and principles and describe some of the activities carried out during my working experience with the EI team at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
